WELL CHILD VISITS
The American Academy of Pediatrics has established a well child visit schedule that we adhere to and recommend our patients follow. These comprehensive visits are important for several reasons:
to monitor a child's growth and development
undergo a thorough physical exam
to educate and prepare for the future with a focus on anticipatory guidance
to ensure necessary preventative care (screenings, immunizations, review safety measures, discussion about lifestyle)
an opportunity for parents to raise concerns and ask questions
to establish a strong trusted relationship with your pediatrician
All well child checkups are included in a family's membership. A patient's insurance is billed for their vaccines. In addition, family members may also receive their needed immunizations while in the office.
ACUTE CARE AND FOLLOW-UP VISITS
Memberships include unlimited visits to address illness, injury, and other acute or chronic concerns to encompass all of your child’s physical, mental, and emotional primary care needs. Appointments can take as long or as little time as needed. Only one family is in the office at a time so there is no wait in a waiting room around other ill children. It’s nice when you can actually predict how long an appointment will take!
In some cases, we must decide together if an urgent care or ER visit is necessary. Evening and weekend visit requests will be accommodated if possible, for flexibility around your schedule. Home visits may be offered as well (additional fee may apply).
The hallmark of DPC and concierge medicine is the ease of connection to your doctor. Families receive a members-only cell phone number and email address with full access via phone call, texting, email, and video chat directly with their primary pediatrician. All exchanges are uploaded directly into their medical record for continuity.
When needed, we are happy to reach out to local specialists to help coordinate care and expedite the process of necessary referrals. After speaking to the doctor directly, an expert in their field, we are often able to avoid visits to the specialist altogether when they share their insight and recommendations.
Find comfort in the availability of the physician who knows your child best with this personalized care. There is no answering service or on-call triage line. Do you need to speak to your pediatrician? Then reach out directly to your pediatrician.
One of the most unique and enjoyable parts of the practice is the sense of community that has emerged. We have a ton of fun getting to know each other outside of the exam room with special family events and activities. This time together helps us build a trusted relationship so your child is not intimidated to come to the office.
Here are some of our memorable events:
Easter Egg Hunt
Family outdoor yoga
Fire safety with the Bath Fire Department
Tie Dye Party with a pediatric OT
Lock 3 winter event with ice skating & putt putt
Moms Night Out at a local winery
Monthly "walk and talk" events at a local park
Educational seminar with a pediatric sleep therapist
CPR Course for caregivers
Our goal is to have FUN, foster learning through play, support healthy relationships, and reduce stress by taking a break and being in community with others. It's nice to simply enjoy the process of checking out of the "busy" and into the now.
Members also receive a monthly newsletter with updates and happenings within the practice as well as education on various pediatric topics, anticipatory guidance, and always a note of encouragement for caregivers.
Cost transparency is of the utmost importance in this practice model. Families do not have to make medical decisions without knowing how much it will cost them and they never receive surprise unanticipated bills.
Screenings and in-office tests are covered in the price of your membership. Here are examples of testing that is included:
Vision screens (acuity and color blindness)
Screening questionnaires through CHADIS, an online screening tool. Parents complete these from the comfort of their home in advance, so they don't have to rush and multitask during the appointment. These include surveys for development like ASQ and MCHAT, postpartum depression, adolescent anxiety and depression, ADHD, etc.
Point-of-care testing: COVID, strep, influenza, urinalysis, hemoglobin, glucose, pregnancy
Various testing, prescription medications, additional treatments, and consultations are all part of the medical care of your child that can add up in cost.
We work with families to find the lowest cost alternatives for outside laboratory studies and medications, for those who prefer not to use their insurance. We have secured great pricing with LabCorp and wholesale medications that are extremely affordable. We are thrilled to pass the savings along to the patients of the practice when we can cut out the middle man markups.
To save families a trip to the pharmacy or store on their way home from the office, we keep many commonly prescribed medications as well as over-the-counter medications in-stock in the office.
We can directly consult a specialist for a flat affordable fee with our EMR, AtlasMD by remotely discussing your child's case through secure messaging. Not only does this enable better care, but it saves time and reduces in-person consultation costs.
